A Corten

Corten A is a corten steel grade. Corten steels, including Corten A, are noted for their high tensile strengths, corrosion resistance, and extended life.

Corten A was created to be utilized in harsh environments. It is most commonly utilized for its aesthetic qualities, since it has a vivid orange hue when initially exposed to the environment, then fades to a maroon tint after prolonged contact to the elements. When compared to unalloyed steels, it also has a higher resistance to air corrosion. This makes it an excellent choice for structural applications like bridges, where higher strength-to-weight ratios are critical.

Corten A contains alloying elements such as Cu, Cr, and Ni, which improve its resistance to air corrosion.

Corten A develops an oxide layer when exposed to the atmosphere without being painted, which protects the steel from further oxidation or rainwater attack, allowing it to be used in many industrial applications where greater strength-to-weight ratios are required than those provided by carbon steel alone, such as architectural structures such as roofs or siding panels on buildings with very long lifespans (e.g., bridges).

B. Corten

Corten B outperforms normal steel in terms of tensile strength and resistance to atmospheric corrosion. This is because, when exposed to the elements, steel creates a protective coating on its surface.

Corten steel comes in two grades: A and B.

Corten steel (also known as korten steel or weathering steel) is a rusted mild steel. It is a self-adhesive steel to which various alloys such as copper, chromium, nickel, and molybdenum have been added to boost resistance to air corrosion.

فولاد کورتن is divided into two types: Corten A and Corten B. Corten A has a maximum carbon content of 0.12%, while Corten B has a maximum carbon content of 0.12%. (and usually also some additional micro-alloying elements such as phosphorus and sulfur). As a result, Corten A provides only extremely limited corrosion resistance in real-world applications.

This is why it has never gained wide acceptance in the market despite its low price compared to other types of weathering steels. On the other hand, weathering steel B has more carbon than grade A rendering it more resistant to atmospheric corrosion under real conditions and giving it up to 3 times longer lifespan when used without the need for painting or external treatment.

S355J2W is a steel grade that is suitable for applications in areas where there are high demands for low-temperature toughness. This grade has been supplied in the normalized and quenched conditions. When exposed to corrosive environments, it acquires a protective layer from this process, which makes it more resistant to corrosion than other corten steel grades. S355J2W is also used in cold rolled steel profiles, which are hot-dipped galvanized. It has a minimum yield strength of 355 MPa and an impact energy at -20C of 27J.

S355J2W is a Corten steel grade that features a higher level of resistance to atmospheric corrosion when compared to other steels. This type of steel is commonly used in outdoor structures where the opportunities for inspection are minimal or non-existent, and where weathering steel would be likely to out-perform alternative materials in their service life.

S355J2W has a minimum yield strength of 355MPa. It is equivalent to DIN and JIS standard, and it is equivalent to American ASTM standard A242.

The specification S355J2W was first introduced in the European standard EN10025-5.

This new standard specified technical delivery conditions for structural steels with improved atmospheric corrosion resistance. The corrosion resistance of S355J2W is significantly better than that of carbon steels such as S235J2W and S355J2G1W, which have no copper content or other alloying elements, and are only alloyed with phosphorus.

S355J2W is a medium tensile, low carbon manganese weathering steel which displays a greater level of resistance to atmospheric weathering when compared to other unalloyed steels. Its chemical composition promotes the early formation of an adhering protective layer of rust when exposed to the elements. Weathering steel, often referred to by the genericized trademark COR-TEN steel, and sometimes written without the hyphen as corten steel, is a group of steel alloys which were developed to eliminate the need for painting, and form a stable rust-like appearance after several years’ exposure to weather.
